Harvest Time at the farm is really a special and exciting time. We often have visitors come and ride the combine. This is Marek, Court and Joel's little brother. Even though he was not raised on the farm, he probably loves riding the combine as much as they did when they were little. This week we welcomed a visitor from Paris, France and last week a few of the kids from Gateway Woods who had never been near a combine before. "It is a lot bigger than in the pictures." was there response. Some had lots of questions and others just quietly took it all in.

This is my brother-in-law Jeff who farms with Steve. Steve's dad, Oliver, drives the combine most of the time and Steve, Tyler and Jeff are usually handling the grain with our trucks. The corn has been wet this fall, so it has been hard for the dryers both at home and at Milan Center to keep up. This means that sometimes we have to stop combining even if the weather is good and the equipment all working because we don't have anywhere to put it yet.
People often ask me if I need to help. I used to drive truck some, but I don't anymore since Tyler moved back home. Frequently I am sent after parts, which often means driving to Bluffton, IN or Payne, OH. Of course I try to take meals to them as needed, usually just lunch.
The last several years we have been done well in time for Thanksgiving. This year we're not sure if we'll make it. Time will tell. We are especially thankful for safety so far this fall. We always give a deep sigh of relief when harvest is over without injury.
